A Rolex is built to last, but even the most robust mechanical watch benefits from thoughtful care. These five habits will help preserve its accuracy, appearance and value.
1. Rinse after salt water
Fresh water removes salt and sand from the case and bracelet. Dry with a soft cloth before storing.
2. Respect the water resistance rating
Gaskets age. Have the case tested annually if you swim or dive regularly, and never operate the crown underwater.
3. Service on schedule
A mechanical movement should be serviced every five to seven years, depending on wear. Regular servicing prevents costly damage.
4. Store it safely
Keep your watch in a dry, dust-free case away from direct sunlight. A watch winder is optional; gentle manual winding is equally effective.
5. Protect the bracelet
Clean the bracelet with mild soap and a soft brush, and have the clasp checked during service to avoid unexpected wear.
