An automatic watch is a small mechanical city. Hundreds of components work together to keep time, and a little attention goes a long way toward keeping it healthy.
Wear it regularly
Motion keeps the mainspring wound. If you rotate several watches, wind each one gently once a month.
Avoid magnetic fields
Laptops, speakers and magnetic clasps can affect accuracy. If your watch suddenly runs fast, demagnetisation is a quick fix for a watchmaker.
Keep it clean and dry
Wipe the case with a soft cloth after wear. Have the gaskets checked during every service.
Service with a specialist
Use a watchmaker who can supply original parts and document the work. A proper service includes disassembly, cleaning, lubrication and timing.
Store with care
Use a lined watch box, avoid extreme temperatures and keep the watch away from direct sunlight.
